THE 13½ LIVES OF CAPTAIN BLUEBEAR by Walter Moers was produced by Blackstone Audio and comes with what is perhaps the best audiobook app available (see FEATURES, below).

Welcome to the fantastic world of Zamonia, populated by all manner of extraordinary characters, including Minipirates, Hobgoblins, and Babbling Billows, the Spiderwitch, the Troglotroll, and the Mountain Maggot. It’s a land of imaginative lunacy and supreme adventure, wicked satire and epic fantasy, all mixed together and turned on its head.

Playful enough for young adult readers, yet as intricate and engaging as any work of literary fiction, The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear has the plot of a novel and the spontaneity and humor of a vintage comic book, making it already an instant cult classic.

Self-contained, this audiobook app is perfect for your commute, on a trip, or while relaxing. Based on a library-quality recording, this app was built especially for your iPhone and iPod Touch. No unreadable text, no endless scrolling. The audio is of higher-than-normal quality, making for a great listening experience that will not tire your ears or grate on your nerves.

NOTICE: This app includes the same 5-star recording that is available through other retailers for higher prices. It is unabridged and professionally recorded at Blackstone Audio by Audie® Award winner Bronson Pinchot. You are not buying yet another amateur or volunteer narration. No clicks, background noises, throat clearing, mispronunciations, tinny voices or monotones will be found here.

“Even readers with short attention spans will find themselves captivated by the nonstop parade of madcap characters as treacherous predicaments resolve themselves with charming ease... Comparisons to Harry Potter aside, Moerss kaleidoscopic expedition is fanciful and endlessly entertaining.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“The quirky writing is definitely strong enough to carry itself, but Moers includes several black-and-white illustrations that enhance the whimsy... this is the kind of tale that readers have to just sit back and enjoy, wherever it takes them. The ending does tie the loose threads together. A wild, fun-filled ride.” —School Library Journal

Pros and cons of The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear (by Walter Moers) app for iPhone and iPad

The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear (by Walter Moers) app good for

After listening to Bronson Pinchot for a few hours I gifted this app to everyone in my family. Full dues to Bronson for his reading of Bluebear; the accents are amazing, you often question whether its a different person reading. The story itself is wonderful, laugh-out-loud funny in parts, yet cerebral and sensitive. Highly highly recommend. One word of warning though: the app is huge and takes quite a while to download. Please please do Rumo, Bronson!!
I love Captain Bluebear. This audio version is clear and well presented. Options to start where you left off, the beginning of the chapter, or beginning of the book are super helpful. I didnt use the sleep timer, but it could be handy for reading to children when your throat is sore.
The guys voice is kinda boring, but still an awesome book. It would be nice to see the artwork though...future update hopefully.that would be 5 stars

Some bad moments
